How it works: Standard Web API stream sharing
Modern Chromium browsers (such as Google Chrome, Brave, and Edge) support capturing an audio track when you share a browser tab. PulseKani uses the standard getDisplayMedia() API to receive this local audio feed and route it into our real-time Web Audio DSP pipeline.
No account or extension required
You do not need to install an intrusive browser extension or virtual audio cable software. Standard browser tab sharing provides a direct, pristine digital audio feed.
Stream any web player
Works with web players including Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Mixcloud, online radio stations, gaming tabs, podcasts, and video platforms that play audio in a browser tab.

Step-by-step tab sharing workflow

1. Start playback in another tab
Open your favorite web music player, podcast, or stream in another browser tab and start listening.

2. Click "Share browser audio" in PulseKani
In PulseKani, click Share browser audio. The browser's native sharing dialog will appear.

3. Select the playing tab & check "Also share tab audio"
Choose the Chrome Tab or Edge Tab tab, click the tab with sound, and make sure the Also share tab audio checkbox at the bottom is checked. Click Share.

4. Enjoy the visuals
The PulseKani source meter will immediately light up with the tab's sound. Select your scene, adjust Intensity, and hit F for fullscreen.
Can I use PulseKani with Spotify or YouTube?
PulseKani has no official Spotify or YouTube integration and does not extract protected media from their platforms. If you are playing music in Spotify Web Player or YouTube in a browser tab, and your browser exposes that tab's audio through the tab sharing dialog, PulseKani can react to the shared stream locally. PulseKani never asks for your credentials or downloads external files.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no audio reaction after sharing a tab?
Make sure you selected a Tab rather than an Entire Screen or Application Window (many platforms only provide audio tracks on individual tabs). Also verify that the "Also share tab audio" checkbox in the browser picker was enabled before clicking Share.
Can I paste a Spotify or YouTube link into Internet stream?
No. Normal service links point to HTML web pages, not direct audio streams. Use the "Share browser audio" method on the playing tab instead. The "Internet stream" input in PulseKani is intended for direct audio stream URLs such as ICEcast or HLS radio feeds.
Which browser works best for tab audio sharing?
Desktop Chrome, Brave, and Edge on Windows, macOS, or Linux have the strongest support for capturing tab audio. Mobile browsers and Safari do not currently support tab audio capture via the Web API.
Can I combine browser audio with my microphone?
Yes. PulseKani is a multi-source instrument. You can share audio from a browser tab and connect a microphone at the same time. Try the Collision or Split Field scenes to see both streams interact.
